Your website/ blog -> your online HQ -> your online homebase

Your website is your online headquarters, your home base. It is the single most important “thing” to invest in – in your business.  Your website is your online business card, the way people get to know you. It is the easiest way to make that lasting impression of potential clients and customers.

I use this analogy a lot because it makes perfect sense and helps my non-tech friends understand just how a website is built so bear with me…

Address – your domain (.com .net .ca and so on) is your “web” address, just like a home has a street address.

Foundation – your website has a foundation that it is built upon which is your hosting.

Framework – your website has a frame, walls, windows, and doors, just like a home. This is your theme.

Design – your website is beautifully designed just like a home, these are your customizations.


Below are my recommendations of my favorite tools that I personally use for my own and my clients websites!


When it comes to websites and blogs, I always recommend WordPress to my clients and business friends. When using other platforms such as Wix or Squarespace, you do not own your content or the space it lives. They could shut down at any moment and your left with nothing. WordPress offers the customization, stability, and best of all, you own your content.

Web Hosting


Hosting is what makes your site run.

A good hosting company can make or break your website or blog and I highly recommend Site Ground. This is what my two websites are hosted with. Reliable speeds, proper maintenance, and outstanding customer service.

Divi WordPress Theme


Your theme is what makes your website customizable. You can buy themes from so many different developers, but I highly recommend that the Divi theme from Elegant Themes. It is highly customizable and so easy to use.  With Divi, you can design your website on the front end and see your edits in real time. You can save templates for later use, so umm, blogging templates to save time! It is by far my favorite theme that I have come across and its what I use to build most of my clients websites.


Keeping track of your numbers may not seem all that important until you are ready to reach out to someone for a collaboration or pitch to a company. Even if it is not a paid opportunity, you will still want to present your views and bounce rates. The best way to do this is with Google Analytics. It is super easy to install on your website with a line of code that you place in your head section.

Project Management


My all time favorite tech tool! I use it for my business, project mamangement, client management and communication/ sharing of files. I even use Trello for my home and family planning too. 

When it comes to planning and organizing, Trello is a must have! It allows for visual planning and integrates with the calendar too!

Email Provider

If you have been in business for any length of time, then you surely know that growing and nurturing your email list is a MUST!

The best way to grow your list is with a lead magnet or sometimes called an opt-in freebie.This is usually something that offers some value, a quick win, or action steps that pre-empts the product or service you provide. The best way to nurture your email list is to communicate with them often. Automated sequences and triggers are very important for this automation. The following email providers offer segementation and automation in simple ways and are super affordable.



Styled Stock Photos

It is no secret that we are obsessed with shiny objects and things that look “pretty”. We like to show off our brand with elegant styled pictures that catch the eye of our ideal person, but where do we get these images?

I mean there is licensing and creative commons to think about when you Google images and we need to be careful to make sure we have permission to use those images.

I love this site for stock photos! They are pretty and offer a variety of styled stock photos.

Other Favorite Tools


You are going to need a place to design all the things for your blog or business. I use and recommend Photoshop! I used this before I was even a designer. With plans starting as low as $10/ month, why not?

Acuity Scheduling

You are going to need a reliable scheduler for your business calls and coffee chats. Acuity comes with bells and whistles, but also offers a free plan making it a great option to grow with you.

Social Media Tools


This my favorite social media tool of all time! They offer re-shares, which is epic for sharing old content. They offer RSS feed sharing not just for your own blog, but for any blog. So you can set up to automatically share content to yoru social media from your favorite bloggers. Game changer!

Later is another one of my favorites! They offer a way to plan out your Instagram feed and Pinterest. You can upload a ton of content on your desktop, set up a share schedule and the mobile app will notify you when it is time to post.

This is another great tool for Pinterest and Instagram. What makes Tailwind so special is the tribes! You can post one or more pins to your tribes and then share pins from the tribe. It is a share hub where everyone contributes and repins!

This is another fantastic one for Pinterest. I especially love that you can set up board looping to which it will automatically share/ repin the content on that particular board. Boardbooster alos offers robust tools to make sure you rock your Pinterest account!
